Tomato Thepla / Easy Side Dish for Chapathi

                   
                               Tomato thepla is flavorsome flatbread that uses a fresh homemade tomato puree and some indian spices. Last week we went for vegetable picking. We picked a variety of veggies like beans, capsicum, cabbage and tomatoes. After few days ago I made our family fav "Tomato Soup". This week I tried this tomato thepla and packed it for my daughter lunch box and she loved it :) :) Try out this simple and easy thepla and serve thepla with Carrot Raita, Cucumber Raita, yogurt or k-chup!! 

                               

Prep Time: 20 min
Cooking time : 10 min.
Makes: 9-10 theplas

Ingredients:
Wheat flour - 1 & 1/2 cup to 2 cup
Homemade Tomato puree - 1 cup
Green chilli - 2
Garlic -2
Ginger - 2 small pieces
Cumin/jeera - 1 tsp
Sesame seeds - 1/2 tsp
Asefotida/hing - a pinch
Turmeric/haldi - 1/4 tsp
Salt - to taste
Oil/ghee - as needed

Method:
  • To make chili garlic paste, in a grinder put chili, garlic and ginger and make course paste. In a wide bowl take tomato puree, chili garlic paste, sesame seeds, jeera, turmeric, hing, salt and mix everything.                          
  • Add flour slowly and make a dough like chapathi dough. Cover it and keep aside for 15-20 minutes. Makes equal size balls from the dough.            
  • Heat tawa/pan on medium flame. Gently roll the thepla into circle and apply flour if needed! Smear little oil/ghee and cook thepla on both sides till golden brown spots appears.        
  • Serve hot with yogurt, pickle or tomato sauce.
