Homemade Tomato Puree / How to make Homemade Tomato Puree


Homemade tomato puree without any preservatives, sounds exciting !!Surprised smile Yeah……you can easily make this tomato puree at home without adding any preservatives.Open-mouthed smile It is much tasty and healthy than store bought canned puree. This is a base recipe for all your cooking needs as, subzi/curries, biryani’s  etc. puree has a unique flavor and taste that makes your foods tastier and better.  


If you have a jar of tomato puree is ready, it can always substitute for chopped tomatoes. Not only it will reduce your cooking time but gives nice texture & silkiness to curries or biryanis. There are two methods to make tomato puree i.e blanch & pressure cook. I saw this on cooking show and felt this is easy and keeper recipe in hurries. Lets move on to recipe………Hot smile     




Homemade Tomato Puree

                                Prep Time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Makes: 1& 1/2 cup

How to make?

  • Wash and clean tomatoes. Using knife,remove the green part on top and make plus sigh on bottom of tomatoes to ensure even cooking.

  • Boil water in a pan  just enough to cover all tomatoes.  Carefully add tomatoes into boiling water for 8-10 mints over medium flame.


  • You will notice the tomatoes spilt and peel off. Switch off the gas and gently remove all tomatoes and put it in ice cold water to stop over cooking.

  • After cool down tomatoes, peel off the skin and discard. Make a puree the pulp with or without seeds.


  • Strain the puree and your homemade puree is ready !!



Notes :

  • You can also boil this strain puree with a tbsp of olive oil  until  you fiches the desire consistency. Boiling gives a tomato puree rich red color and increase its shell life.

  • Store it in airtight container and it stays fresh upto 1 week.

  • Also you can freeze the puree in ice cube tray and freeze it. Whenever you need, just thaw in microwave and use in any curries.
