My B’fly loves to eat fresh peas and corn but very rarely I will get fresh peas here. I am trying different recipes with peas. One of it is “green peas masala” and that is very flavorful and spicy curry. Today thought of making this without milk or cream and my B’fly loved it a lot
Green peas is one of the handy ingredient that everyone has it in pantry. Green peas also low in fat, rich in iron and source of vitamin A. My family loved to eat it with hot chapathis for Dinner!!
Chop onion and tomatoes roughly. Soak cashew in warm water for 10 min. Grind cashews with little water and make smooth paste.
Heat a tsp of oil in pan. Add cumin seed, onion and tomato. Saute for 5 min till tomatoes turn mushy. keep aside to cool down and grind it a smooth paste.
Heat oil and butter in pan and temper with items ‘’ To Temper’’ Add onion tomato mixture (paste) and saute for 3/4 min. Add spices like red chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, coriander powder, paprika, kasuri methi and Saute till oil separates.
Add enough water (approx. 1 cup), cashew paste and stir well.
Microwave peas for 2 min. Then add peas, salt, sugar and cook for 5 min.
Serve hot with Roti, Paratha or Rice !!!
You can use dried peas also. Soak dried peas overnight or atleast 6 hours. Pressure cook with 2 cup of water till 4 to 5 whistles.
I used frozen sweet peas.
Instead of paprika you can add Kashmiri chili powder for dark red color.
